Kaweka Challenge 2011 Timing
SPORTIDENT Electronic timing system
The SportIdent (SI) electronic timing system is being used for this event. Competitors will be required to carry an SI-card. This is a small plastic stick that is usually attached to a finger with an elastic band. For this event an additional cord will be attached to the SI-card to enable competitors to wear the
SI-card around their neck, to reduce the risk of loss in the mountain conditions. Competitors competing on 2-day courses will be issued with two SI-cards.
.
Competitors who are part of a Course 6 relay team will be required to pass the card to the next team member at the changeover point. One card will be issued for the team.
Before the start
The SI-card must be electronically cleared and checked before you start your course. As you enter the start area, place your SI-card into the “clear” control unit. It will be clearly marked. Hold it there for a couple of seconds, until you are given a red light and a beep, which confirms that your card is working and has been cleared. The SI-card should then be placed in the “check” control unit - to confirm that it is has been properly cleared. It is each competitor’s responsibility to ensure their
SI-card is cleared & checked before the start.
On the course
At each checkpoint, competitors must give their race number to the officials and also punch the electronic control. To punch the control, place the end of the SI-card into the hole in the top of the flat box mounted on the orienteering control stand. Hold it there briefly until a red light and a beep indicate that the control unit has transferred its number and time on to your SI-card. If in doubt, do it again – it does not matter if you record the same control twice.
At the finish
When you reach the finish line, don’t forget to put your SI-card into one of the control units situated directly on the finish line. Again, wait for the beep and the red light, confirming your finish. When you’ve mustered enough energy, proceed to the download station, which will read the information off your SI-card and print out a sheet showing your course time and the split times between all checkpoints. If you do not complete your course, please go through the finish control and the download process, the same as everyone else. Otherwise we will come looking for you. Please return any hired SI-cards to the finish.
RESULTS
Provisional results will be displayed at the finish area as they become available. Certificates will be in your race pack preprinted with your name and course. You will be able to add in your finish time. Results will be posted on the website as soon as possible. The SI-card that is issued to you (or your team) has a number that is related specifically to you as a competitor. The card must not be swapped during the event. If you lose a hired SI-card there will be a charge of $50 to cover the cost of a replacement.
