If you have doubtful gear then bring along alternatives. You will not be allowed to start unless your clothing and equipment pass the gear check and it is a long way to the nearest shops!

The gear checkers will be following the requirements set out on the next page.

Read them carefully to make sure that your gear will pass the check.
Bikes need to be mechanically sound.

 


GEAR CHECK REQUIREMENTS

Waterproof Parka MUST BE WEATHERPROOF, not just shower proof. An acceptable parka must have a hood and sealed seams. Nylon parkas or lightweight emergency ponchos are NOT acceptable.

Gloves or Mittens Must be wool,fleece or polypropylene.

Head Covering Wool,fleece or polypropylene. A sunhat is also recommended.

Full Body clothing Upper Body Clothing: (incl. 2 Tops)
Inner layer:                    Long sleeve polypropylene top or woollen singlet.
Outer layer:                   Long sleeve shirt, jersey or jacket of wool or polar fleece material.
                        Polypropylene is not acceptable for an outer garment.
Lower body clothing:     Wool, fleece or polypropylene long johns or pants.

Spare socks (one pair) All socks are to be wool, fleece or polypropylene

Water Bottle and 1.5 litres minimum of liquid

Race Clothing In addition to the full body clothing.

Race Food If food requires cooking, a cooker must be carried.   Solid fuel stoves are not permitted in the Forest Park.

Reserve Food Enough for another day on light rations, while we find you.
Dried fruit, chocolate, nuts, muesli and the like is            recommended. Do not eat it on the trip unless you get lost!            Minimum 1,500 calories or 6,000 kj. This equates to about 4 large moro bars.

Torch Put new batteries in for the event. Gear checkers will test the light.

Compass Know how to use it!

Whistle Know how to blow it !

Survival Bag Must be of recognised form, such as a Mountain Safety survival bag. Wrap-around survival blankets or plastic rubbish bags are not acceptable.

Free standing tent or fly Must have own poles and pegs.

The gear checkers will sight all items before you start. All items will be checked again at the finish for prize winners and randomly for all other competitors.

DO NOT TAKE SHORT CUTS WITH YOUR GEAR!

First Aid Kit
A Basic First Aid Kit sufficient to treat cuts, blisters and sprains.
